Chernobyl Episode 5 Episode 6 HBO. “Chernobyl”. HBO

September 2018, triggering a local panic. Soon after that, two more reactors were consecutively stopped for planned repairs. Those are just the instances which received attention in the media, revealed either by MPs or by nuclear plant operators. The situation is an ecological disaster in the making, Shakhov warned in an interview to the TV channel NewsOne. But how did a country that relies on nuclear power for 60 percent of its electricity allow its power plants to degrade so far? Ukrainian nuclear facilities were built in the Soviet Union, and for the past decades were maintained in collaboration with Russia. That deprived Ukraine of Russian expertise, something the aging reactors desperately need, says Stanislav Mitrakhovich, an expert on energy policy in the National Energy Security Fund (NESF) and in the Financial University under the government of the Russian Federation. “Many power blocks are already quite old, their resources were already prolonged according to a special procedure, but this extension cannot be done infinitely.  Chernobyl Episode 5 watch online. Why did you want to make this series about Chernobyl and why did you feel compelled to turn it into a drama? I'm drawn to desperation, darkness, and the human beauty within those kinds of things. What happened once I read the script was that I understood how important this story was to tell on a lot of levels because of the cost of lives. We're in a climate right now in which there's actually a war on truth and people are preferring their own opinions to those of experts. I want to play the first line that you hear in your series. Those lines set up that whole series. In doing the series, are you also trying to draw attention to not only issues of truth these days that not everybody agrees on what it is, but also issues like climate change? To some extent, it's embedded in there. This show undeniably deals with how human actions affect the world around us. The accident in Chernobyl effectively killed a massive part of Ukraine. It's still uninhabitable and there's obviously something interesting that we have an acute urgent situation in which we're killing this planet and we have people who deny that because it goes against their business ideas. So, yes, for sure. Monday, May 6, at 9 p.m. ET on HBO. New episodes air on Mondays. Two people died from the immediate explosion, while 134 were affected by acute radiation syndrome. Within that number, 28 died (though the number may be much higher). Still, it's hard to isolate the widespread and long-term effects of radiation. About 5,000 people who were children in highly contaminated areas have been affected by thyroid cancer, possibly from drinking milk from cows who grazed on radioactive pastures. Many engineers were held accountable for the likely possibility of human errors, but scientists have contended that there were flaws in the design of the reactor as well. Plant workers did not know about former nuclear accidents or prepare for future ones. What does the aftermath look like? The disaster yielded long-term health effects in addition to financial and psychological ones as people left their homes. Today, Chernobyl has become, shockingly, a tourist spot, even though it's essentially a radioactive ghost town. The wildlife there, still, has flourished, with 400 animal species in the dense woodlands that have cropped up since the disaster. To this day, Chernobyl remains one of the most radioactive places on Earth. Even though decades have passed, nuclear experts say the area will not be inhabitable for at least 3,000 years, though a few locals have relocated or remained there because they consider it home.|Who is in the cast of Chernobyl? Jared Harris plays Valery Legasov in Chernobyl on Sky Atlantic and HBO. Valery Legasov was the Soviet inorganic chemist who was appointed as the chief of the commission investigating the Chernobyl disaster. While the Soviet government were continuing to downplay the scale of the disaster, Legasov was the man who challenged their version of events and was responsible for saving eastern Europe from near extinction. Legasov put together a plan which would reduce the spread of radiation and prevent the explosion of three remaining reactors. He was also responsible for spotting the exposed graphite rods on the roof of the power plant, which eventually forced the Kremlin to come clean about what really had happened at Chernobyl. He is also responsible for trying to figure out how you contain this event that has occurred, everyone knows it could happen but no one has planned for what to do if it does happen. The real Legasov, he suffers the same fate.  Chernobyl 5 Episode.
Starring Jared Harris, Stellan SkarsgaМЉrd and Emily Watson, Chernobyl dramatizes the story of the 1986 nuclear accident — one of the worst man-made catastrophes in history — and the sacrifices made to save Europe from unimaginable disaster. Legasov and Shcherbina consider using lunar rovers to remove radioactive debris, while Khomyuk faces government hurdles in determining the truth about the cause of the explosion. “We’re talking about 700,000 people being sent to clean up this impossibly contaminated area.” Understand more about the citizens and officials who risked their lives to dredge the devastation — and keep Soviet secrets from leaking to nearby European nations. Every week, following a new episode of Chernobyl, hosts Peter Sagal and Craig Mazin discuss the show’s themes. Stream it where you get your podcasts and on HBO NOW, HBO GO and HBO On Demand. Legasov, Shcherbina and Khomyuk risk their lives and reputations to expose the truth about Chernobyl. Writer and executive producer Craig Mazin, along with the cast and crew, discuss how the miniseries reimagines the cause and effect of one of the worst man-made disasters in modern history. Watch how the massive, demanding production — and faithful reimagining of the disaster — came to fruition. The miniseries’ cast and crew gathered among U.N. International Chernobyl Disaster Remembrance Day. “Riveting.” “Stunning.” “Engrossing.” Critics and audiences alike are mesmerized by the miniseries. You can stream HBO anywhere you go. Watch HBO on your TV, computer, tablet or mobile phone.|AUTOMOD The following is a copy of the above post. This comment is a record of the above post as it was originally written, in case the post is deleted or edited. We've been together 2 years, living together 1. Shes 30, and moved to the US from the UK right before we met. I don't mean detailed specifics only a history major would know, I mean things I'd assume pretty much anybody would have at least heard about in passing somehow, at some point. For example, she didn't know Italy was allied with Germany in WWII, or who Moussalini was. Or she never heard of the Hindenburg. Last night I was telling her about how I was was watching the new series about Chernobyl on HBO, and how interesting it seemed. She kind of just gave a disinterested/blank answer. After that I kind of just stared blankly at her. Its such a famous disaster I was genuinely shocked how someone would have never encountered mention of it. I told her it would be like if I told her I never heard of the Titanic before. She then called me an asshole for making her feel bad and cried. After calming her down I went on to explain to her what happened. She went to art school instead of regular university, and is in a creative profession. I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please contact the moderators of this subreddit if you have any questions or concerns.  Chernobyl Episode 6 watch online.
